Books and Babies

I was worried that once I had a baby I would no longer have time to read.  For now at least that has not been the case.  I am still able to read in the evenings, on the train and when I am letting Camille nap in my arms (which, of course, I never do. On a totally unrelated topic, does anybody know how to get a 7 month old to nap in their crib?).  I was turned onto The Hunger Games by somebody from my book club and I am so glad!  The Hunger Games is the first in a trilogy of books so of course I was forced to read all three as quickly as possible!  It is a young-adult science fiction.  Now, I generally hate science fiction because all the made up sh*t makes it hard for me to follow, but I thought this series did a great job of having very little made up crap and names so I could actually keep track of all the different animals and people.  The series is a bit strange because it is about a post-apocalyptic world where the Capitol holds power and televises The Hunger Games where the Capitol chooses one boy and one girl ages 12 to 18 from each district and has a massive battle where only one person can survive.

A little morbid, yes, but good!

Another pretty good book was A Good Hard Look by Ann Napolitano which is a fictional account of Flannery O’Connor’s life and stories about her hometown.  Not life changing, but a good read.

Now for babies!  Camille is eating solid foods as fast as I can make them (which is not very fast).  So far she has had apples, pears, peas, sweet potatoes, squash, banana, broccoli and avocado.  She has liked everything except avocado but I think it was kind of a gross avocado so I can’t blame her.

This picture is totally weird but funny.  Actually, she kind of looks like me in this picture!

She does totally look like you in that first picture and the second one is a riot! I had to skim over everything you said about the Hunger Games because they have been on my reading list for about a year and I try to live in the dark about books until I take the time to read them. But I’m glad to see you blogging again! Reading your blog aids my homework and responsibility procrastination! :)
